GP Swim: Week of 6/17 and Beyond

Frogs, Families & Friends,

Great job to all Frogs yesterday at time trials! Also, a big thank you to all of the parent volunteers for your help in running the trials.

This week marks the start of the dual meet season and morning practices. Below, please find a summary of this week's activities and beyond.

Before you look at the upcoming events, I would like to say a few words about the passing of our beloved former coach Tony Lisa. Above all, Tony was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He made his mark on the swimming world as a coach at Rowan Univ., the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and internationally at the Goodwill Games. In 1985, Tony came to Bells Lake to coach a GP Frogs team with about 50 swimmers. He went on to take that team from F to A division in TriCo and contend for the league championship for years. Tony would eventually leave the team, but come back again in 2008 where he helped rebuild our team once again.

However, much more important than the wins and losses was the impact Coach Tony made on the swimmers and parents, or anyone with whom he interacted. Tony coached many of our current Frogs, as well as all of our current coaches. Tony also coached several of our current parents. If you want to know about Tony's impact on them and GP, all you have to do is ask them tell to you a "Tony story." Everyone has one, most have many.

There is a Grateful Dead song called "Ripple" which is about the impact a song can have long after it is written as it is re-sung time and again. A song, like a stone thrown into a lake, can create a ripple, which keeps expanding and expanding until it fills the entire lake or the world. The ripple of Tony Lisa filled Bells Lake long ago. It keeps expanding through each of us he touched and will for years and decades to come.  RIP Coach Tony.

GO FROGS!

Volunteers Needed: Team Dinners/Celebrations and B-Meets

We still need a few volunteers for some of the team dinners/celebrations and we need a couple parents to help stage the Wed. night B Meets.

More specifically we need the following:

- 2 families for the Tri-County Pizza Party

- 2 families for the Labor Day Frog Farewell Party

- A family or families to run/manage Frogs Cafe for A and B Meets

- A parent(s) to run/manage the 50/50 fundraiser at A and B Meets

- Team Moms:  9/10 Girls and 15-18 Girls

No cooking is involved in any of these celebrations - all you have to do is to set up, refill/clean as you go and clean up at the end. Please email Kim Morris at kmorris@monroetwp.k12.nj.us if you're interested in volunteering for any of the celebrations or email me if you are interested in helping stage the B meets.
