GP Swim: Message from Coach Julia on Upcoming Events/Season

See below for message from Coach Julia on upcoming events and season

_____________________________________________________________________________________

First of all- Wow! How impressed I am with the progress, enthusiasm, talent, and sportsmanship that has already been displayed this season, and we aren’t even three weeks in! Truly, the fun has yet to begin. Once we are in the full swing of summer, the excitement will really start!

I appreciate both the swimmers and parents alike bearing with us in these hectic weeks. I am so eager to be permanently back next Friday! I am looking forward to working with the swimmers every single day and finally having “all hands on deck”. I am so proud and grateful for my wonderful assistants who have managed the practices “swimmingly” all the while being shorthanded every day. Please continue to be patient and understanding with us as the school year winds down!

Please see below for some important details from myself and the assistants that go over important questions I’ve received going into the start of our season.

Saturday June 16- TIME TRIALS

Returning frogs should know the deal…

-Swimmers must swim FREESTYLE and chose 2 events of their choice. (Butterfly, backstroke, breastroke)

-Experienced swimmers should need no assistance in choosing these two extra events…They should choose best stroke for one of their events, and their third event is up to them. Swimmers will review these events with the coaches the week leading into Time Trials if there are any questions.

-Swimmers may notswim all four events!

-New swimmers will check with the coaches about events they are comfortable trying but must swim freestyle at time trials.

-8 & under swimmers will swim one lap of freestyle and extra events if directed/okay’d by coaches. (This will be reviewed at practice the entire week before and discussed amongst swimmers and coaches)

-Tadpoles will not be required to swim at time trials. There are no “kickboard races” at time trials- these are only done at Wednesday night B meets.

Saturday, June 23rd- FIRST A MEET

-WARMUPS BEGIN AT 7:45 PROMPTLY…Be at the pool by 7:30 at the latest. We cannot stay in later than our time slot as the visiting team must warm up as well. Older group warms up first, followed by the younger swimmers.

-Tadpoles are likely to notswim in A meets, however their attendance (especially at Home meets) is encouraged! These are very exciting, loud, and memorable moments!

-FRIDAY MORNING at practice, swimmers will find out what they are swimming at the A Meet.

-As stated before, swimmers are required to be at Friday morning practices or they will not be included in the A Meet lineup. Contact Julia directly for conflicts on Friday mornings.

-Coaches make meet line ups for the best chance to win the meet. The events are non-negotiable!!

-At all meets, swimmers must wear team suits/ team caps. You will not be allowed to swim if you are wearing a tech suit or another cap.

Little Brothers/Big Sisters

-Before the first A meet, we will post “little sister/big sister” and “little brother/big brother” lists. These are chosen randomly and are non-negotiable. If you are new to the team, this is a tradition we have had for decades. The older swimmers’ job is to mentor and cheer on the younger brother or sister during all of their races and offer encouragement throughout the season. Usually at Friday night parties, or Saturday morning meets, you get your little/big brother/sister a small gift with a small card.

Example of a gift:A Gatorade and a power bar/piece of candy/something small. Also include a card (usually made on construction paper) reading something simple and encouraging like “Swim Fast Connor!! I will be cheering for you! Go Frogs! From, Sean”

Please do not go crazy getting a gift every week for your child’s brother or sister. People often shop for these gifts at Five Below or the Dollar Store.

As always, contact me directly for concerns and conflicts at pedersenjulia7@gmail.com.
