GP Meet Observations by the Coach

Coach Tony asked me to pass this message along that contains his observations about the first meet.

Hi Parents & Friends

What a great first meet for our team this Saturday...a great win -341 - 213. The meets will be harder to win from here on...This coming Saturday we swim Stratford....They appear to be a stronger team then us....

Points of note:

  •   Many new swimmers to our team performed so well. I know they were nervous and didn't know what to expect, but their times were great.

  •   We had two relays Disqualified (DQed)...We touched the wall first but did not get the 7 points because a swimmer left too soon (jumped early). In a close meet, this could have been devastating

  •  Our team spirit was great and this is because our older swimmers (I call them our senior leadership) were enthusiastic. Younger swimmers look to them to see if it is "cool" to cheer and get excited. GP is blessed to have such a fine group of "senior leaders"

  • Some of you left the meet after your child's last race.  Please, Please don't do this....We stay to support the older swimmers in the remaining relays and to pay respects to our opponents. It is permissible to leave if you have a "real" commitment that forces you to leave.

  • Contributions to our bake table were great, but the table was very under staffed...You are respectfully asked by me, to give 1/2 hour of your time at the table.  You can sign up at the team bulletin board.

Fathers who helped set up and take down the equipment for the meet...You have my respect. That is way too much work for the few of you to do all the time...Others, please consider lending a hand.

To our assistant coaches: You have done a great job with the team so far, let's clean up some of our problems, bring in some great drills to improve our strokes and starts and turns and get the team ready to race on Wednesday & Saturday.

Let's all do our part to keep this train rolling.

Respectfully,

Tony Lisa
